Our Board

Board of Directors

Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Queensland is a non-government organisation limited by guarantee.  The company was established on 18 September 1996 with a voluntary Board of Directors appointed and a maximum number of Board Directors set at fifteen.

Our Board of Directors provides strategic and corporate governance to the agency.  We are committed to sustainable growth that works within the parameters of our mission and values. We focus on governance (see our Board Charter) and developing strategic capacity to sustain ongoing growth.

The Board meets eleven times per year and holds a minimum of two Board Development Days annually. The Board operates under a Board Charter. The Chair of the Board can only serve a four-year term in this role and the Board Directors, a maximum term of ten consecutive years.

Beck Borger

Beck Borger was welcomed to the Board in 2017 and was appointed Deputy Chairperson at the Annual General Meeting in the same year. She currently is a Director of a boutique marketing and business strategy firm, focused on developing multi-generational family businesses.

Beck holds Bachelor, Master qualifications and professional development in the areas of finance, law, marketing/communications and strategic management. She has held general management and corporate leadership positions since the age of 22, working in Australia and the UK.

Throughout her life and career Beck remains a strong advocate for supporting charities and developing people and teams. Beck brings a wealth of management experience and her passion and knowledge of marketing, communications, business strategy and people development provide invaluable insight for the board.

Beck underpins the importance of building passion in all you do, and demonstrating a commitment to a cause bigger than yourself – so together we can achieve beyond the believable.

Maryanne Long

Maryanne Long is a qualified social worker [B.SW, M.SW, MAASW (Acc)], and has held varied roles across both state and federal government and in private practice across community and mental health, education and family law sectors. Maryanne currently works for the Australian Public Service (Federal).

Maryanne brings knowledge of both government and not for profit community services sector service delivery and human services management within the Darling Downs and South West Queensland region. Specific interest areas include income support, mental health, suicide prevention and community resilience, family and domestic violence, support and development of human resources sector practitioners.

Maryanne has previously served on local school boards and committees of management and was a member of the Qld Mental Health Tribunal for an extended period.

Maryanne Long joined the Board in February 2015.

Rob Craig

Rob has extensive experience working in the health system and was previously Chief Executive of St Andrew’s Private Hospital and Nursing Home (Central Queensland)

As a Certified Practising Accountant Rob has an in depth knowledge of not for profit organisations having worked in the sector for some time.

Rob has a passion for travelling and volunteering and is involved with many committees.

Rob Craig joined the Board in 2017.

Nadja Jones

Director

Nadja is a psychologist who is currently in private practice working primarily with the Indigenous community and children and families. Nadja completed her honours degree in 1991, she then ventured into a maximum-security prison and then onto Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Qld Ltd in a professional capacity. 

From this point, Nadja has held many varied roles, including a return to working in custodial settings for Sisters Inside/Women’s Legal Service, then on to the UK where she worked for Rubicon, a specialised residential facility working with young people with high needs and challenging behaviours.

Nadja brings a broad knowledge base from both a local and international perspective.  Nadja considers part of her role to be an advocate and voice for those in need. She strives to bring an understanding of the issues faced by marginalised and minority populations to the broader community. Nadja thoroughly enjoys the therapeutic endeavour associated with her day job, along with advisory roles.

Nadja Jones joined the Board in September 2016.

Alan Dean

In 2019 Alan rejoined the Board after previously serving from 2000 to 2010.  During this time, he held positions including Treasurer, Chairperson and Human Resources convenor.  Alan also worked for twelve months as a Lifeline Darling Downs senior manager establishing and managing federally funded programs.  This experience has given him great insight into the operation of the organisation.

Due to his background as a Certified Practicing Accountant and his work for the Australian Tax Office, Alan has extensive knowledge in relation to non-profit tax issues.

Alan also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education.  He has worked on several local committees and boards in the Toowoomba area.
