Winter Shelter Toowoomba Pilot Every night more than 20,000 Queenslanders and 116,000 Australians are homeless. During the chilly Toowoomba winter many people who are experiencing homelessness have no shelter, no warm food and no one to turn to. Winter Shelter Toowoomba is an affiliate of Stable One, a program that has been successfully supporting people experiencing homelessness in Victoria for over six years. The model brings together local faith communities to open their facilities to those without a place to stay, providing beds, free meals, a caring community and support services. Winter Shelter Toowoomba is backed by Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Qld Ltd and brings together seven local faith communities along with numerous support services and will operate during the months of June, July and August supporting up to ten people a night for ninety-two nights. “Together we can provide warmth, shelter and food for those who need help. Winter Shelter Toowoomba provides more than just a place to stay. It is about providing hope, dignity and community for those experiencing homelessness,” CEO, Derek Tuffield OAM said. With the current low rental vacancy rates, this program is more important than ever as we head into the cold, harsh Toowoomba winter. For a donation of $250.00 (which is tax-deductible), you can help provide safe, caring and supported accommodation this winter for up to ten homeless people in our community. Donate to Winter Shelter Toowoomba Every dollar donated is matched with the hard work and dedication of volunteers and numerous in-kind donations. This means that each dollar donated will have a $25 impact. Winter Shelter Toowoomba is seeking volunteers to assist with a range of tasks over the course of the program. Volunteer for Winter Shelter Toowoomba Together we can provide warmth, shelter and food for those who need help. Winter Shelter provides more than just a place to stay. It’s about providing hope, dignity and community. Let's help change the story for those in need.
