Financial resilience services has an early intervention focus, assisting people to address their financial problems before they reach crisis point.
Financial resilience workers will build people’s capacity to understand their financial situation and the ways in which credit works, assist them to develop and maintain budgets, undertake straightforward negotiations with creditors, link people with specialist support services (e.g. gambling help, drug and alcohol services) and assist them to access low cost financial products such as no interest loans.
Qualified financial counsellors are able to assist people with more complex and entrenched financial problems to resolve those issues, and have the capacity to undertake complex negotiations with creditors about restructuring debts.
Financial resilience workers and financial counsellors can also provide financial literacy education workshops to the community.
This program is funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
