Financial Counselling
Money management problems? While the basics are not normally taught in school or at home, money, in particular the lack of it, causes many distresses. If you have debt problems, money issues, want to know how to budget, or get more out of your money, then Financial Counselling may be able to help.The Financial Counselling Service of this agency provides a free and independent service to consumers who want information or assistance with a wide range of financial issues, including:
- Creating an individual budget to help with money management
- Ideas to stretch you money further
- Understanding Centrelink-benefit or debt
- Negotiating with creditors
- Options concerning debt or over-commitment
- Understanding your legal rights and responsibilities about contracts and debts
- Understanding the debt collection process
- Exploring options
- Part IX Agreements
- Bankruptcy
Financial Counsellors may also:
- Give budgeting information
- Give information on Part IX debt agreements & bankruptcy
- Advocate on your behalf
- Check that your contracts are correct
- Conduct community education
- Participate in group advocacy, community development and education, as well as social action reform.
Counselling may be conducted either "face-to-face" or if you live outside the Toowoomba area and cannot make it to our office, then phone appointments can be organised for those in the South West Queensland area.
