What is Family Therapy ?

Our approach emphasizes:· the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem.

· the problem affects all the members of a household, family or group. · It is often found that the person        presenting with the problem can more easily resolve it with the help and   support of their family.

 · The counselling approach enables family members to change              interactions  which in turn allows the  problem behavior and unhelpful      beliefs to change.

New clients entering the Family     Therapy service usually have a Single   Session.

Research indicates that many individuals and families benefit from  attending a single counselling session that assists them to make changes in their personal lives and relationships. A Single Session approach consists of:

1. An initial phone call with a counsellor from the Family Therapy Team to   explore the nature of the problem, who is being affected by it, make an     appointment (if suitable) and discuss who should  attend the face to face counselling  session.

2. A face to face counselling session with the counsellor and the individual or family , with the aim of helping the client/s to make the desired changes.

3. A follow-up phone call from the counsellor to discuss what has occurred since the session.  At that stage a future appointment can be booked, if applicable.
